Amanda Hawkins has been the RNIB Senior Manager (now specialist lead for Counselling and Emotional Support) for nine years. During this time, RNIB’s counselling provision has grown from seeing 300 clients in 2009 to 1400 in 2017. Amanda is the current Chair of the Counselling and Emotional Support group under Vision UK, and was Chair of BACP from 2012-15. She is the strategic lead for RNIB’s Need to Talk project funded under the EU’s Special EU Programmes Body (Interreg). This aims to grow counselling and emotional support to people affected by sight loss in the SEUPB’s area of Northern Ireland, border counties of the Republic of Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
Amanda’s talk will look at recent developments in counselling and highlight the approach and offer of the Need to Talk project. This aims to overcome geographic isolation through the offer of telephone and online counselling.
